Circa: 1820 Publisher: By John Adamson
Rare first edition book in two volumes by the title 'Memoirs of Luis Camoens inscribed and signed by the author John Adamson on the reverse side of the title page. On page 7 of the book it appears the author using the same pen and ink has blotted out a word that did not belong in the text (see image of page 7). There is an owner's name in ink on the front blank page of each volume.
John Adamson (1787-1855 was an antiquary and scholar of Portuguese.
Only 500 copies of this two volume work were produced.
The bindings are in good over-all condition with some wear to the surface o the moired paper. The leather covered spine on both bindings are in very good condition.
There is discoloration in each volume to the page with engraved frontispiece, minor toned discoloration to the title page and on the dedication page of volume 1 just a few spots of toned discoloration. There is also some discoloration on the last four pages of volume 1 which is especially prevalent on one of the blank pages at the end. The end of volume 2 exhibits just a few minor random spots of toned discoloration.
