Circa: 1784 Publisher: Lady's Magazine
1784 Lady's Magazine for the month of October containing rare historic articles relating to hot air ballooning which had just begun in 1783. Beginning on page 535 there is an article by the title Aerostation describing balloon experiments being carried out by Jean-Pierre Blanchard, a pioneer in balloon flight and John Sheldon. Beginning on page 538 is an article detailing various balloon experiments carried out from the first experiment on the 21st of November, 1783 through the 25th experiment carried out on the 16th of October, 1784. There is also an article on Jean-Pierre Blanchard's initial experiments with flying. Blanchard is credited with conducting the first balloon flight in America in 1793.
Also in this issue is content on Captain Cook's voyage to the Pacific Ocean.
The magazine comprised of the October 1784 issue is comprised of 54 pages from page 507-560.
The historic magazine is in fair condition with toning and spotty discoloration as well as wear in the form of some tears and creases to the edges. The three printed pictorial plates which are supposed to accompany this issue of the magazine are missing.
