Circa: 1932 Publisher: Philadelphia Orchestra Academy of Music
Very rare May 26, 1932 playbill program for the play 'Electra' in which famous American actress Katharine Hepburn had a part along with American actress Katharine Alexander. Stage actress Blanceh Yurka played the lead role.
1932 is the year that launched Katharine Hepburn into movies. She was doing a playby the title 'The Warrior's Husband' which opened on March 11, 1932 at the Morosco Theatre in New York and ran for 3 months where a scout for a Hollywood agent noticed her performance. Hepburn tested for and landed her first movie role in 'A Bill of Divorcement' which launched her movie career.
The play 'Electra' ran for only one performance at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia in which Hepburn had a role at a time when she was starting to receive recognition and publicity as a stage actress for her role in 'The Warrior's Husband'.
The program is in good over-all condition with some spotty toned discoloration on the interior. Marked in pencil near the top left of the inside first page is 'With Stokowski' which likely indicates Leopold Stokowski was involved with the production.
