Circa: 1874
Rare presentation book to Ulysses S. Grant during his time in office as President of the United States. The book is titled 'PROCEEDINGS OF THE BUNKER HILL MONUMENT ASSOCIATION, JUNE 17, 1874.' On a front free page is the calligraphic and hand-written presentation inscription 'presented to U.S. Grant President of the United States in behalf of the Bunker Hill Monument Association G. Washington Warren President'. The book is bound in a brown leather binding with raised bands on the spine and gilt lettering and detailing including tooled leaf motifs on the spine and leaf motifs on the inside edge. The pastedowns are moired decorated. The page edges are gilted. Over-all the book is in fine condition with some toning of the leather color on the spine and some surface rubbing /wear primarily on the edges of the spine and some on the top and bottom edges of the covers. The interior text is in excellent condition with the pages creamy white in color. There are some light over-all spots of toned discoloration on the tissue guard for the engraving facing the title page. Please inquire if you have questions and/or would like a shipping quote.
