Circa: 1812
Rare book titled 'Karamania or a brief description of the South Coast of Asia Minor And of the Remains of Antiquity with plans, views, etc. collected during a survey of that coast under orders of the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty in the years 1811 & 1812'. The book was written by francis Beaufort. Inserted for the missing title page is a hand-written letter dated 1846 indicating the book to be 'old'.
The binding is not original. The illustration 'Selinity' which according to the list of plates should be across from page 187 is actually at the beginning of the book before the preface. There is some spotty discoloration on the 'Selinity' illustration but the rest of the book is quite clean with the paper toned in a creamy white color. There are a few random spots of discoloration. There is also a very small 1/4" in size boring beetle hole at the page edges on pages 25 through 82. |
