RARE BUNKER HILL BOOK ULYSSES S. GRANT OWNED Rare presentation book to Ulysses S. Grant during his time in office as President of the United States. The book is titled 'PROCEEDINGS OF THE BUNKER HILL MONUMENT ASSOCIATION, JUNE 17, 1874.' On a front free page is the calligraphic and hand-written presentation inscription 'presented to U.S. Grant President of the United States in behalf of the Bunker Hill Monument Association G. Washington Warren President'. The book is bound in a brown leather binding with raised bands on the spine and gilt lettering and detailing including tooled leaf motifs on the spine and leaf motifs on the inside edge. The pastedowns are moired decorated. The page edges are gilted. Over-all the book is in fine condition with some toning of the leather color on the spine and some surface rubbing /wear primarily on the edges of the spine and some on the top and bottom edges of the covers. The interior text is in excellent condition with the pages creamy white in color. There are some light over-all spots of toned discoloration on the tissue guard for the engraving facing the title page. Please inquire if you have questions and/or would like a shipping quote.

EARLY BOOK ON PHOTOGRAPHY NEGATIVE PROCESS Photographic process resource book by the title 'Wet Collodion Process: Introducing the use of dry, and colour sensitive collodion plates for process work' written by Arthur Payne and published by Mawson and Swan circa 1918. This photographic process was used for making line and half-tone negatives, enlarged negatives, transparencies and ferrotypes. Contains 139 pages plus an index and advertisements. The book has a bookplate on the first free page along with the stamped marking 'Tennant and Ward 70 Fifth Ave. New York' The dark brown colored cloth covered binding with red lettering is in good condition with some edge wear & rubbing on the heal and top of spine and at the corners. RARE 1739 BOOK BY THOMAS CARTE RARE BOOK IN TWO VOLUMES TITLED 'A COLLECTION OF ORIGINAL LETTERS AND PAPERS, CONCERNING THE AFFAIRS OF ENGLAND, FROM THE YEAR 1641-1660 FOUND AMONG THE DUKE OF ORMONDE'S PAPERS' written by Thomas Carte and printed in 1739 by James Bettenham of London. Thomas Carte (1686-1754) was one of the great English historians of the 18th century. Volume one is comprised of an eight page preface and 472 pages. Volume two contains 464 pages. Both volumes are bound in leather with stamped decoration on the spine and on the edges of the binding. Also on the binding is the title and decoration in gilt. The bindings appear to be original and are in fair to good condition with wear on the edges, on the spine and at the hinges. The covers are still attached to the spine although just by the rope ties within the binding. There is an old bookplate for A. Fenwyke and the name George Fenwick in ink in each volume. Also in ink are the signatures for Thomas Hunte and Abraham Symes. The majority of the pages are mostly creamy white in color with some age discoloration primarily on the front free page and title page and some light staining towards the back part of the first volume and some age discoloration on the first several pages of the second volume but otherwise the interior of both volumes are tight and clean. Each book measures 8.5"h x 5.25"w x 1.5" thick.

1872 BOOK ON THE KU-KLUX CLAN CONSPIRACY Historical 1872 First Edition book titled 'TESTIMONY TAKEN BY THE JOINT SELECT COMMITTEE TO INQUIRE INTO THE CONDITION OF AFFAIRS IN THE LATE INSURRECTIONARY STATES'. This volume contains the report pertaining to testimony taken by the committee in relation to Ku-Klux Klan activity in South Carolina. Other volumes of which this is one volume from the 13 volume set contain testimony in relation to Ku-Klux Klan activity in other southern states. This volume contains fascinating content in interrogatory question and answer form of first-person testimony and includes negro testimony concerning the Klan as well as others with knowledge of who have had personal interaction with the Klan. The volume is comprised of pages 597-1283 (almost 700 pages). The book is bound in a dark brown colored cloth binding. There is some wear to the binding mostly along the edges of the spine and near or at the corners of the cover. There is also some staining of the binding. The interior is in fine condition. The pages are creamy white in color with occasional light staining which is mostly marginal on some of the pages. The book measures 9"h x 6"w x 2" thick.
